Composting is very important. It reduces waste, makes us less dependent on landfills, decreases greenhouse gas emissions and creates nutrients for plants, among other things. There are a lot of different composting methods. We recommend VERMICOMPOSTING, or composting using worms. This is a simple method for converting biodegradable waste into organic manure, with the help of earthworms. The worms aerate the soil and digest organic matter, producing castings that are a valuable source of humus. You will need a starter kit (one 27-gallon dark plastic bin with holes, brown and green matter in a 4:1 ratio, and about 30 red wiggler worms). You can get the start up kit from us, which would cost $60, or you can buy it separately and have it ready the day of the class. Our fees are $35 for instruction and set up (approx. 45 min).
